The UW Dunker

I’m a burger fan. A huge burger fan. Last night I met some friends for dinner at The Ram before going to the Guster show at the University of Puget Sound. I found one of the most yummy burgers ever! It’s called ‘The UW Dunker’, and it’s basically a cheeseburger on a grilled roll that comes with au jus for dipping! Seems like a simple idea, but I’d never had it before and so i decided to try it. It was very tasty, one for the record books.

The Guster show was really great! Their encore song was a cover of that ‘Going Hungry’ song from the late 90s. It was hilarious! I can’t remember who did that song originally – Pearl Jam? Temple of the Dog? (shrugs)

Traffic Pattern Analysis

Steve has a great post discussing some theories as to why his commute is better or worse depending on what day it is. I’m glad that other people think about this too as I contemplate it all the time as I’m sitting still on the 167 most mornings. For me it seems that the best days are Mondays like Steve says, with the worst being a tie between Tuesdays and Fridays. One weird part about my commute is that if I leave earlier than most people would, say like 6:30 or so – the traffic is worse than if I left at 7:15. I’m still trying to find that ‘magic window’ of time where that short stretch of 167 that I travel is wide open. Since I’ve been doing this commute for a year and a half, I’m starting to think that the window doesn’t exist…

If I start to get angry at my 40+ minute commute some days, I just remind myself of my two brothers who have awful commutes. One commutes from Lake Stevens to Renton, and the other from DuPont to somewhere way up North-East near Ravensdale! Both of them commute for about three hours each day!

Be Like Jack

Lately I’ve been catching up with some episodes of 24 (just polished off season 4, on to season 5 now) and I’ve decided that I need to be more like Jack Bauer. Why? Because he’s rad! Check out his awesomeness:

I think there’s two main steps I need to achieve in order to get my look going:

Step #1 (complete): Get some cool aviator sunglasses:

Step #2 (in progress): Get me one of those hot widows peak haircuts. Problem being that I haven’t started losing my hair yet. My older brother said that he started losing his hair at 27 years, which age I am reaching in August of this year.

So there will maybe be a few ‘golden years’ where I’ve lost just enough hair to look (hopefully) half as cool as Jack does. I also will need to work on my scratchy voice, kicking, torturing and pistol clip switching skills as well. This may take a while…

MAME on iPod Video/Nano

PAC-MAN

Some smart folks have come up with a great idea! They’ve hacked the iPod to run MAME. A group of people have been working on getting linux to run on our devices for a while, and iPodMAME has been released as a result of that. If they get 1942 to work, I’ll be ecstatic! (geek snort)

p.s. The picture is sideways because that’s how it is on the iPod, you actually play holding the iPod more like a game controller!

Imogen Heap

On the way home from my pal Kurt’s house last night, Sarah and I tuned into The Chill Side of The Mountain. This crazy sounding song came on that I thought was really creative. When we got home I googled the song, and found out that it is by Imogen Heap and the song is called “Hide and Seek”. You’ve gotta check it out if you haven’t heard it before. I can’t quite place the genre – electronica, folk, pop?

*Update* – Turns out Imogen Heap and Frou Frou are the same singer. Small world!

Linux… Not Ugly?

CANDY!
Looks like some folks are working hard adding some eye candy to Linux. It’s encouraging to see some drop shadows and transparencies on a Linux desktop. Not that I’m gonna switch or anything… unless my inner geekness totally takes over! :D

Oh yeah, watch this movie of it in action too.
