Monte Cristo

Today the Gordon’s made some Monte Cristo sandwiches for lunch, they were quite good. When you think about the ingredients separately, it sounds kind of gross. But married together they are indeed quite tasty!

From wikipedia:

A Monte Cristo is a sandwich of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese between batter-dipped grilled or fried bread.

The sandwich can differ regionally. Traditionally it is dipped in its entirety in batter and deep fried. In some regions of the United States it is served grilled, and in some regions it is served open faced with just the bread battered.

The sandwich is often served with fresh fruit or with Clotted Cream on the side. It is sometimes served with fruit preserves, powdered sugar, or sweet mustard sauce.

The Big Island of Awesome

We had an amazing time in Hawaii for 12 days! We were able to check off many of the things that we dreamed of doing there:

  • Swam with Sea Turtles!
  • Hiked across a dormant volcano
  • Kayaked in crystal clear water
  • Found a rope swing at the base of a waterfall

We also ate a ton, we even found a place called ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp Co’ that is themed after the Forrest Gump movie. If you like shrimp, it was the place to be! We had a great time with our partners in crime, the Soinis. We had many beach days that included body surfing and snorkeling!

Here’s some pictures!

Do It Yourself Pantry

We realized shortly after we moved in that our kitchen was a lot smaller than our old place. We discovered a coat closet just across from the kitchen and thought, “hey, let’s make that a pantry!” So we measured the closet and set off for Home Depot. A friendly guy there helped us get some white wireframe shelves cut to the right side and supplied us with some drywall mounting brackets. It was a fairly easy install. With drill, level and hammer in hand we were able to get it finished in about an hour. We were quite impressed with ourselves as we aren’t really the ‘Mr./Mrs. Fix It’ type. Here’s some pictures:

What You Must Do on Friday

Last Friday, you probably saw Snakes on a Plane. (I didn’t because snakes freak me out, even CGI ones) That means that this Friday you should go to Andrew Platter’s CD Release Party at The Paradox! All the cool kids are gonna be there, and also the losers as well so all will feel welcome. There’s some other great bands playing also, one of them being my pal Steve’s Rebels & Scientists! So you have two options — go to this show or go to this show. The choice is yours!

Surprise!

Like I said earlier, I wanted to upload a great shot of all the peeps that made it to my surprise party! What an awesome time! I truly had no idea about the party and was so shocked to see so many friends and family all in one place! Click the image to see a larger version:

My 27th Year has Arrived

I got a great email from my Grandpa this morning:

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Daniel! Happy Birthday to you! (We do mean you). We can’t believe that you’re 27.

We love you,
G’ma and G’pa.

PS. Your birthday money was donated to the Ronald Mc Donald House to help those less fortunate.

A few years back my grandparents decided that us grandkids have enough ‘stuff’ and decided to donate our Birthday and Christmas money to charity. For a while I didn’t get it but now upon reaching 27 I see what a great idea it is. Thanks for the cool gift, Grandpa and Grandma!

I had a huge surprise birthday party that Sarah threw for me a few weeks ago. I’m gonna add a post of that soon with some great pictures of the event. Stay tuned…
