    Hi,

I just downloaded the app, it works great, I’m going to donate!
However, I had some suggestions to improve it.
    - it would be nice if a post could be sent without text and title. if only a pic is to be posted, it is not possible now.
    - the size of the picture can not be changed easyly when writing a post. It would be nice to have the possibility to set the width when writing the post and not only for pre-set values.
Both of these suggestions come from the fact that I use asides plugin and sometimes do not want to post more than a pic to the left-hand side (with a width of 190 px), but to post a larger pic to the main part requires different settings.

Still, the app is great, thank you for working on it :-)

      Hi Connor,

    Thanks,

    • Dan says:

      Hi there,
Make sure to just type the path TO the xmlrpc.php file, not the file itself. So if your xmlrpc.php file is at blog.com/xmlrpc.php, all you need to enter in the settings is blog.com

    Hi!

I also have a HTC Hero and having problems with uploading pics, i can choose them but they don´t display on the “post page” at the Hero like in your pics above…

I´ve been using other software as Mblog for Windows mobile right up to this so I know It´s working to upload pics.

    - My wordpress is 2.8.2
    - HTC Hero
    - Your latest software :)

    Anyone solved this issue?

Regards Zeb and thanks for a good app! :) (zeb@zanders.nu)

    • Dan says:

I installed a Hero ROM on my G1 a while back and also noticed the same issue. HTC went ahead and changed the Android select picture API to return something different than all of the other Android devices. I don’t think I can fix it for the hero, as it would break all of the other devices. I blame HTC for this one :(

  39. tom says:

Same prob with hero, could you fix?

    • Dan says:

Again, I’m pointing the finger at HTC on the Hero issue. They changed one of the core API’s for Android so that they could make a fancy picture selector with animations. I can’t fix it without breaking all of the other Android devices. Sorry :(

Too bad. I have the same problem.

I don’t think you have a choice but to make a new version for HTC hero if you wanna keep WPToGo alive though. All future android phones from HTC (who also produce Googles own phones)will share the new API.

No use for WPToGo, if it only works on very old phones.

The android wp app that fixes the problem with the new HTC api will take the throne, be it WPToGo, PostBot or something else. And with all the wp installations out there, it could be a nice little business if charging a small fee or donation. (Personally I think WPToGo is the most cool app., but if it doesnt work on new phones, it does’nt matter)

    Just a good advice.

Thanks for a cool little app, to bad I cant use it on my new phone.

    Cheers !

  44. Hi Dan!

I have a little suggestion for your great piece of Android software. As I use two “subpages” on my URL (you can find under holgernietgen.de/spd and holgernietgen.de/privat two complete different pages) it would be nice if you can build in a feature, so you could rename the Accounts in the starting screen. Now it says two times Holger Nietgen, with no difference… is that possible?

    Cheers

    Holger

  45. Sara says:

Thanks a million for the update! It works (on my Hero)! Now you’re my hero ;-)

  46. Hi Dan!

Thanks for your ultra-fast positive response to my feature-request. Your are saying in your answer to me, that I should update, but “my Android-Market” says, that I have the latest version? So I can´t update :-( And I don´t wanna erase your App and reinstall it, because I´m afraid to loose all the preferences…

    Cheers

    Holger

The blog is hosted on gandi.net

The xmlrpc address gandi gives me is:
    https://blog.gandi.net/ xmlrpc.php/mycomplicatednumbersandletterskey
I tried without and with the space, with it it crashes WPtoGo, without it gives the forementionned error.

Here is what google documentation has to say about the error:
    http://code.google.com/android/reference/java/net/UnknownHostException.html

    Any clues?

    • Mark T says:

I get the same problem with my WordPress blog. I think it’s because wpToGo is unable to correctly connect to https resources (seems to be hardwired to port 80?)

If I put in an http URL instead then it follows a 301 that I supply to my https address, but then it fails as it ends up GETing rather than POSTing.

Could you pretty please make this work with https URLs on port 443? TYVM! :-)

Nice app, just one “slight” problem – try to save a draft, it asks for a name, I give one, then it doesn’t confirm anything happened but nor does it give an error. Unfortunately, though, nothing was saved, as far as I can see at least. You’ll agree with me that this is a bit of a drawback when you have been writing some sheer poetic genius for the last half hour and all is gone….

    Hello Dan,

I tried to look through the comments and bug fixes to see if there were any other users having the same problem as myself, but it does not appear so.

My WP blog is the current version 2.8.4
I’ve also installed the most recent version of wpToGo from the Android Market (1.8.3) and am on the myTouch3G running the 1.6 firmware.

Now my issue is that I can post are submitted sucessfully, and my images upload are in fact uploaded, but when I go to look at the actual post, it’s just text. I think for some reason the html tags aren’t getting completed? For example, this is what my post looks like:

    img alt=”image” src=”http://www.mechangel.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/wpid-2009-10-03-16.17.49.jpg” /br /br /Test

It looks like all the html tagging has been stripped. I have two blogs, this one and a fresh install I did today that both exhibit the same behavior.

Have you ever encountered this scenario? Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

  75. Hi,

Nice app, works well except for two things (HTC Magic):

    1) Whenever I turn off the phone or hit Home then reopen the app, it goes back to the opening screen: hitting back gets me back to what I was doing, but I nested fairly deep before I realized that :)

    2) When I hit Apply Changes after a moment on the “Editing Comments” whirly, I get a “Sorry! The application wpToGo (process com.roundhill.androidWP) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. [Force close]“. The changes aren’t applied.

    Thanks for the sweet app!
    Rusty.

  76. Sherm says:

    Hi Dan,

Like Ting above I am using the Mytouch3G with 1.6 Donut, and my WP blog is a new install of version 2.8.5.

I’m able to post with out any trouble but always get this message:
“Post ID# XX added successfully, but an error was encountered when uploading images”

Tried uploading different sized images but none seemed to work and checked server logs, no errors there.

I love this app and would use it all of the time, but pictures are important to this project. Any advice?

    Sherm

    • Dan says:

      Hey Sherm,
This seems to only be an issue with certain self-hosted installs of WordPress. Can you check if the images actually show up in the Library? It seems that in most cases, the images are uploaded but the XMLRPC service doesn’t send back the URL to the image properly, which is why wpToGo displays that error.

Any other details you can provide would be helpful! My blog is on wordpress.com so it’s hard to test self-hosted.

      • Sherm says:

        Dan –
I hadn’t been able to get any images to upload until today. Eventually I thought to make sure the directory /wp-content was writable and for grins, created the uploads folder under it. Works perfectly now and I can’t wait to give this app some more use.

        Thanks,
        Sherm

hi, a great work! i am eager to use your app. however, the current version does not seem handling the “title” part of postings in Japanese appropriately (“body” text seems alright. though). the “title” text strings look like they are converted to ASCII-encoding through wpToGo somewhere in its process. most PC-based browser can show them correctly in plain HTML “post” pages, but its “admin” modules cannot convert those ASCII codes back to UTF-8 Japanese characters, thus leading to illegible “title” part in the admin post editor section and garbage “permalink” strings. it would be great if you could keep the “title” text in the original UTF-8 format through its entire process, so that those uneasy incidents be avoided. (perhaps you send the title text by GET instead of POST? can you send them by POST all together?) thank you!

      Hey Israel,
Are you running the latest version of wpToGo? Looks like it’s crashing at a weird place, that’s why I’m wondering.

        Dan,

Ya, 1.94. I can give you a better logcat, I’ll clear the log and then only take the log from when I click the “save” button.

Really like the app by the way, it is a great thing to have.

I haven’t written any android apps yet.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the pic is actually uploaded to my /wp-content/uploads directory, but no link is created in the post, just like Sherm. I have wp-content and wp-content/uploads and all subdirectories changed to write permissions for everyone, i.e. 777 (which is insecure, but I did it for the troubleshooting).

Im a big fan of the app, and am using it to manage a blog with hundreds of tags. It would be great if you could add the ability to download tags ala categories, so you don’t fork your tag topics because of typos or not remembering how you spell a persons name. Auto-suggest would be my next request!

  126. Pete says:

A big feature request: Hyperlink the uploaded photos, to enable people to reach the full size image from the thumbnail.

    • tuomi says:

      +1

I guess I don’t need to explain why but this would be a really good feature!

    • Kenneth says:

      I agree!
This feature would me highly appriciated :-D
The Android app PostBot has this feature, but i like wpToGo has a much better design to it..
      Please provide this feature! :-)

      • Dan says:

        hey folks,
I actually had this as an option in an earlier version, but it was buggy for a lot of people and caused crashes. How about I throw it back in and you guys can test it for me?

      • tuomi says:

Yeah that would be really appreciated, you could see if you can find some inspiration in the image-attch-options in the latest wp-installment. Both regarding their thumbnailing standard and ability to link to the fullsize picture.

        Cheers!

  127. Brian says:

Great app on my Motorola Milestone. Only issue I have is with photos taken with my mobile not being rotated correctly. If I take a photo in landscape and upload using wpToGo it works fine. However if I take a phone in portrait and upload using wpToGo the image is uploaded on its side, and not correctly rotated. Suspect there is some rotate information within the actual image file that wpToGo is not acting on.

Hi, I have one question, is there a way U can add an extra field to the app? I use YAPB (http://johannes.jarolim.com/blog/wordpress/yet-another-photoblog/) on my page. When i post prom admin panel YAPB works correctly, but when U post from wptogo, post is not correct because YAPB uses an extra field to include image to post.
So question is,can U add this field to make YAPB parse correctly an image in post?

Hi! How can I reach you directly regarding your Android app? It’s regarding your app featuring in an advertising campaign. If you can get back to me asap, I’d be grateful. thanks! Dave

  132. Lennart says:

I am using wpToGo on my brand-new Nexus One and it works fine – as far as it goes. What would make it a real killer app for me is if it would also allow me to respond to comments. That would be huge. The reason is that it is not often I will try to write an entire post on my Nexus One, but I can easily respond to comments. I would use that function all the time. It would make the app an absolute must-have and would make many, including me, willing to pay for it.

I know I am supposed to be able to blog pictures with wpToGo but it doesn’t work, as others have already pointed out. I don’t see how it could, since I would have to provide an upload directory for my hosted blog, correct? I am not using WordPress.com but a self-hosted blog.

Does anyone know, or does it use a WordPress setting that I don’t know about?

Thanks for this App! looks like it is working but with bugs… it hangs when I hit the Categories field. I am new to the usage of the Droid and am learning more each day.
Also I created a new post and placed a photo in there but there seemed to be no way to make it show up. I saved it and there seemed to be an implied saved to local. I hit publish to no avail the Wp2Go APP crashed.
Thanks for your work on this Dan!

Maybe I should have mentioned that I did check a few basic things before posting. I checked that my phone was turned on and that it had internet connection as well as checking that my blog worked. :)
Setting group permissions to read/write/execute did the trick, though it would have been nice to know which folders specifically needed the permissions change so I wouldn’t need to do it to the whole wordpress directory.

Hey, love both the WPtoGo and the new WordPress App. My problem is, I had a local draft saved under WPtoGo, which I had looked at in the past, so i know it WAS saved correctly. Now, it is no where to be found. I cannot find any wordpress files anywhere in my file system, and I spent a lot of time on this 90% complete post. any advice on where this would be hiding in my file system?

I know this might not be the right place to ask, but it was the best one I could find.

    Thanks.

    • Dan says:

Drafts from wpToGo won’t carry over to WordPress for Android I’m afraid :(

      • Frank Varro says:

I still have wpToGo though. Is there anywhere I should be looking in my file system for the original saved copy, in case it unlinked itself somehow? (I did have to re-input all my login stuff before this draft disappeared, so I’m wondering if its just in the wrong sub-folder)

      • Dan says:

Drafts are saved in a local database, not a file. I don’t think it should have been lost on account of installing WordPress for Android. Your drafts tab is empty?

      • Frank Varro says:

Yeah, draft tab is empty. I searched my droid for anything with a filename with wptogo, wp, or wordpress, and didn’t find anything on the sd card or in the base memory, so I got stuck there…
